We are collecting our thoughts after the AW17 show took place at the weekend. We are so pleased that the show went so well, we had our strongest collection of brands to date, covering everything from children’s books and leather bags to knit wear and maternity bags.
Our visitors increased by 35% and we saw a big increase in international buyers from Germany, Sweden, Korea, Saudi Arabia to name a few.
Thank you to all our visitors and especially our brands who choose to show with us, it was a very hard task to choose just 3 brands to win our Dot to Dot awards for Best New brand, Best Fashion, Best Accessories. We did manage it and chose 3 strong brands who really brought something new to the show or in love Frankie’s case a brand we have seen develop into a strong, individual and focused collection, here are all the winners…
Best New Brand
We loved Apolina Kids collection of colourful, whimsical and delicate designs. A refreshingly different brand creating gorgeous products for kids, so different to any brand we have had at Dot to Dot. More about Apolina:
Apolina was born out of a desire to create a more authentic style, something exciting yet nostalgic; not a passing trend but a modern bohemian range with longevity and a sense of craft.
With a focus on highlighting Indian craftsmanship, Apolina works with a small, family-run Indian manufacturer, who employs equal numbers of women and men (unusual for this industry; it’s usually men). Ethical trading and production practices are strictly adhered to and workers are not only paid a fair wage, they are also treated as members of the extended family.
Best Fashion Brand
We were really excited by Lotte’s collection, the bold garment shapes combined with the simplicity of the denim made a strong statement. Another brand who were different to anything we’d seen before at Dot to Dot and one we can’t wait to see develop! More about Otti:
OTTI is designed by Lotte Goodwin and manufactured in London, England, using local industries and reducing carbon footprint wherever possible. With her background in fashion, and understanding that the throwaway culture of this industry needs to be addressed, Lotte believes in buying less and sourcing wisely.
Lotte worked closely with denim in her graduate collection so was naturally drawn to this timeless durable fabric. She spotted the lack of simple, stylish denim for children, seeing only fussy mini versions of adult clothes, or overly gendered designs with generic motifs. This is when her ideas for OTTI began to develop. Her unique and playful designs and on-trend styling let children stay young for longer.
Best Non-fashion/ accessories Brand
Love Frankie returned to Dot to Dot after a few season absence, the collection shown for AW17 was bold, graphic and fun. We haven’t seen this much colour in a collection! The 90’s inspired fast food graphics combined with bold coloured lampshades adorned with pom poms was a treat for the eyes and once again very individual. We love originality at Dot to Dot and Love Frankie has, over the years, developed into a unique and strong design brand. Well done Jo!
We had so many strong collection at Dot to Dot here are the commended brands who caught our eye!
The duo have grown so much after launching with us last AW16 and have some amazing new prints, the softest jersey and it’s also great to see development into new fabrics. We loved the oversized playsuit in crepe and the luscious colour palette.
We always look forward to seeing the new collection of Finnish brand Papu. Always playful and fun this season sees a felt tip pen print that we loved!
Timeless, unisex workwear Made in Britain saw a strong collection from newcomer Monty & Co. Boiler-suits, jackets and dungaree’s form this collection of practical and stylish garments.
Illustration led Sas & Yosh showed a collection of animal prints across clothing, accessories and wallpaper. Bold colours and intricate patterns, Sas & Yosh are ones to watch!
The AW17 collection from Raspberry Plum was wearable art. We loved the Picasso like graphics and striking colour palette, a very strong collection from this growing brand complimented by a Circus themed photoshoot by Sonya Hurtado.
